This French Toast Casserole is a sure hit for special family breakfasts, and the sweet blend of syrup and spices will keep them asking for more. Since this dish is put together and refrigerated overnight - it's an easy way to feed a crowd.

Ingredients:
1 loaf bread (about 450 g)
8 eggs
2 cups (500 mL) half & half
2 cups (500 mL) milk
1/4 cup (50 mL) maple or pancake syrup
2 tsp (10 mL) vanilla
1 tsp (5 mL) ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp (2 mL) ground nutmeg
1/4 tsp (1 mL) ground allspice
1/3 cup (75 mL) packed brown sugar
1/4 cup (50 mL) golden corn syrup
1/4 cup (50 mL) butter, melted
Maple or pancake syrup and/or berries or sautéed apples
Description:
Cube loaf and spread over the bottom of a greased 13 x 9” (3.5 L) baking dish. Whisk eggs in a large bowl. Add half & half, milk, syrup, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg and allspice; whisk until combined. Pour mixture over bread. Cover and refrigerate overnight.
Just before baking, combine brown sugar, corn syrup and butter; whisk until blended. Drizzle over bread mixture.
Bake in a preheated 350°F (180°C) oven until puffed and golden brown, about an hour.
Cut into pieces and serve drizzled with syrup and/or fruit.
